Seeding / Repairs in Huntsville & Madison, AL
Thicken a thin lawn and fix the bare, worn, and damaged spots that keep your yard from looking finished.
Overview
Seeding and repairs is the work of thickening thin turf and fixing bare, worn, or damaged areas of a lawn. Depending on your grass, that can mean overseeding, patching trouble spots with seed or sod, and preparing the soil so new grass takes hold. It is for lawns with thin shade areas, pet or traffic damage, washouts, or ruts.
North Alabama note: Tall Fescue is the go-to grass for shady North Alabama yards, but our hot summers thin it out, so fall overseeding is how most fescue lawns stay thick. Sunny Bermuda and Zoysia lawns repair differently, which is why we start by identifying your grass.

Seeding / Repairs: Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to seed a lawn in Huntsville?
For Tall Fescue, early fall is the best window because the soil is still warm and the weather is turning cool, with early spring as a second choice. Bermuda and Zoysia are repaired during the warm growing season, often with sod or plugs since they spread on their own once established.
Can you fix just a few bare spots?
Yes. Many jobs are spot repairs for areas worn down by pets, foot traffic, shade, or standing water. We look at what caused the damage as well, since a bare spot that keeps coming back usually points to shade, drainage, or compaction.
How long before I see results?
Fescue seed usually sprouts within one to three weeks when it is kept moist, and fills in over the following months. Sod repairs look finished right away but still need regular watering while the roots knit in. We will give you a simple watering plan.
Do I need to aerate before overseeding?
It helps a great deal. Core aeration opens the soil so seed makes good contact and has somewhere to settle. On compacted clay we often recommend doing both together.
