When is the best time to start lawn care in North Alabama?
Any time is a good time to start. Spring and early summer are ideal for kicking off recurring mowing and warm-season fertilization, while fall is perfect for cleanup, overseeding cool-season fescue, and preparing beds for winter. We’ll meet your lawn wherever it is in the season.

How often should I mow my lawn in Huntsville?
During the warm growing season, most Huntsville lawns benefit from weekly mowing because Bermuda and Zoysia grow fast in the heat. In spring, fall, and slower stretches, bi-weekly service is often enough. The goal is to never remove more than one-third of the blade in a single cut.
What is the best mowing height for my grass type?
It depends on your turf. Bermuda is usually kept short, Zoysia slightly higher, and Tall Fescue taller to handle North Alabama shade and summer heat. Cutting at the right height for your specific grass encourages deeper roots and a denser, more weed-resistant lawn.

When should I apply pre-emergent for crabgrass in Huntsville?
Apply pre-emergent in early spring, before soil temperatures hold near 55 degrees Fahrenheit, which is typically late February into March in the Huntsville area. Crabgrass germinates as the soil warms, so the barrier must be down beforehand. A second application later in spring extends protection through the season.
How often should my lawn be fertilized in North Alabama?
Most North Alabama lawns benefit from several timed applications across the growing season rather than one heavy feeding. Warm-season grasses like Bermuda and Zoysia are fed through late spring and summer when they actively grow, while cool-season Tall Fescue is fed mainly in fall and early spring. How deep should mulch be in North Alabama beds?
Most North Alabama beds do best with 2 to 3 inches of mulch. That depth retains moisture through our hot, humid summers and suppresses weeds without smothering plant roots. Too little mulch lets weeds and sunlight through, while piling it deeper can trap excess moisture and hold heat against stems.
When is the best time to mulch in Huntsville?
Spring is the best time to mulch in Huntsville, ideally after the soil warms and you have cleaned up winter debris. A fresh spring layer holds moisture through summer heat and gives beds a clean start. A lighter fall refresh is also helpful to insulate roots and tidy beds heading into our mild winters.

How often should I pressure wash my house and concrete in North Alabama?
Most North Alabama homes benefit from pressure washing about once a year, with shaded or north-facing surfaces sometimes needing attention more often. Our humid, tree-covered climate encourages green and black growth on concrete and siding. An annual cleaning keeps surfaces from staining deeply and slipping into long-term buildup.
What is the difference between pressure washing and soft washing?
Pressure washing uses high-pressure water to clean hard, durable surfaces like concrete and brick, while soft washing uses low pressure with cleaning solutions to safely treat delicate surfaces. Siding, wood decks and fences are usually soft washed. Choosing the right method protects your surfaces while still removing algae and grime.

How often should I have my gutters cleaned in North Alabama?
Most North Alabama homes need gutter cleaning at least twice a year, typically in late spring and again in late fall after the leaves drop. If your property has heavy tree cover, especially pines that shed needles year-round, three or four cleanings a year keep water flowing freely. We can recommend a schedule based on what surrounds your home.
What are the warning signs my gutters are clogged?
Common signs include water spilling over the gutter edge during rain, sagging or pulling-away gutter sections, peeling paint or stains on the fascia, and pooling water near your foundation. You may also notice eroded mulch beds, washed-out planting areas, or seedlings sprouting in the gutter itself. Any of these means it is time to clear them.
